A new project we initiated was making and distributing masks and hand sanitizers for free to our community. 75 + masks have been given away with another 60 to go.
This project started with two Lions! Both sewed them all, one found the pattern, purchased materials, and helped organize the cutters. We had four Lions doing the bulk of the work. Two primarily cut fabric, and two sewed and assembled the masks. Cut pieces of fabric were brought to our weekly meetings, and were completed at a later date by other members. We each worked out of our own homes and work stations, but coordinated with each other. One member was part of a quilter group at church who got them to assist with donating scrap fabric and cutting out the patterns for us to sew. The hand sanitizer was purchased at a discounted rate from a local pharmacy: Marketime Drug, and volunteers helped put Lions Club stickers on them at one of our Happy Hour service projects before distributing. We put the masks and labeled sanitizers in plastic baggies to hand out. |

Masks were initially available on a request basis. We advertised our giveaway through Facebook and the Chamber of Commerce. One of the mask assemblers would deliver masks to the doors of those in need. Once the initial rush died down, we were able to set up a table in downtown Moscow outside of the Chamber of Commerce and handed out masks and sanitizer until we were completely out (around 50). That evening was our only physical presence in the community, but we delivered masks door-to-door for about 2 weeks.
